Continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a special Storytime at the Center. During this engaging program, Center staff will read Sofia Valdez, Future Prez, the inspiring story of a young girl who learns that when something needs to change, anyone can step up and make a difference. Through Sofia’s journey, children will explore themes of leadership, perseverance, civic engagement, and using their voices to help their communities. Following the reading, families can participate in a hands-on activity designed to encourage creativity and problem-solving while reinforcing the story’s message that every person, no matter their age, has the power to create positive change. Perfect for young learners and their caregivers, this interactive experience helps children see themselves as future leaders and changemakers. Join us this Saturday for an unforgettable experience with interactive storyteller Mama Koku, who will lead high-energy, improvised storytelling sessions at 12 p.m. Known for her magnetic stage presence, Mama Koku transforms storytelling into “story-doing,” inviting children and families to step into the narrative and become part of the performance. Each session is lively, creative, and completely unique, blending imagination, movement, and collaboration in a way that keeps audiences fully engaged. While you’re here, be sure to explore Change Agent Adventure: Children’s Gallery, an interactive space designed for children 12 and under. This hands-on “secret headquarters” invites kids to play, create, and build confidence as they discover what it means to be a changemaker. About the Storyteller Mama Koku is a celebrated teaching artist and storyteller known throughout Metro Atlanta for her dynamic and interactive style. A graduate with honors from North Carolina Central University, she studied theater with concentrations in performance and education. She began her career as a high school theatre teacher, where she honed her work as a storyteller and children’s writer.
