Burke Music Academy Pop-Up Concert
National Center for Civil and Human Rights 100 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd, Atlanta, GA, United StatesStudents from the Burke Music Academy will present a Free concert entitled "GLORY: A Juneteenth Experience” on June 20th, 2026, at 12:00 PM at The National Center for Civil and Human Rights. This audience-immersive performance serves as a social commentary on how BIPOC music has historically shifted American and global pop culture. Burke Music Academy (BMA), based in Atlanta, GA, offers conservatory-level musical instruction in a modern way to students at all stages of development. Founded in 2020, BMA serves students of all ages through private lessons, educational outreach, workshops, and performance opportunities. Their curriculum-based instruction is structured to accommodate diverse learning styles, with visual aids, supplemental videos, online resources, check-ins between lessons, and practice guides. BMA fosters the whole artist from the earliest stages of development through advanced study. Their programs are innovatively designed to support virtual and in-person lessons, workshops, and performances.

Through their Empuptry workshop, children will take part in a hands-on puppet-making experience that blends storytelling with social-emotional learning. Participants will create their own puppets, learn basic puppetry skills, and collaborate in small groups to bring short, guided skits to life. This engaging workshop encourages emotional awareness, communication, confidence, and teamwork in a fun, supportive environment designed for elementary-aged children. Workshops are offered at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., with limited spots available. Participation is first come, first served. During your visit, be sure to explore Change Agent Adventure: Children’s Gallery, an interactive space designed for children 12 and under. This hands-on “secret headquarters” invites kids to play, create, and build confidence while discovering what it means to be a changemaker. About the Organization 1202Puppets is an Atlanta-based educational puppetry company that creates interactive experiences for children through storytelling, literacy, and hands-on puppet activities. Known for its original production Who’s In My Jungle?, the company blends live puppetry, music, and audience participation to spark imagination and learning. Through its SEL-based program, Empuptry, and partnerships with schools, libraries, museums, and community organizations, 1202Puppets brings meaningful creative experiences to children and families. Equitable Dinners: We Hold These Truths

The objective is to provide participants with a space to share their stories, hopes, and dreams for our country's future, and to bridge divides and connect with neighbors. Through storytelling, food, and dialogue, participants will leave feeling hopeful, connected, and inspired to create a world where everyone thrives! The event will follow the format of Equitable Dinners: A Play: Experience a thought-provoking short play A Meal: Share a meal at a table with friends and strangers A Conversation: Engage in a guided discussion led by trained facilitators About the Play "Ancestral Reckoning" by Marcie Rendon is a one-woman play about an Indigenous woman whose voice carries the wisdom, resilience, and teachings of generations. She tells a story that explores the enduring impact of colonization on Indigenous communities while illuminating the strength that has sustained Indigenous peoples despite centuries of displacement, erasure, and resistance. At the heart of the experience is a question: What does America look like seven generations from now? Drawing from the principle of considering the long-term impact of today's decisions, this conversation moves beyond immediate challenges and asks participants to imagine a future grounded in stewardship, justice, reciprocity, and community. Attendees will be encouraged to think expansively about the legacy being created for future generations and what it will take to build a nation that honors both people and the land.
