The National Center for Civil and Human Rights Enhances Building Safety with New Siemens Air Filtration Technology
In partnership with Siemens Corporation, the patented air cleaning technology provides a safer space for visitors amidst COVID-19
ATLANTA, GA (Jan. 13, 2021) – In an ongoing effort to safely remain open to the public amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights (NCCHR) is one of the first cultural institutions that has incorporated thermal imaging and air purification technologies from Siemens and its partners into its existing health and safety protocols.
Siemens, through their partnership with Sustainability Management Partners, has brought patented needle point bipolar ionization (NPBI©, manufactured by Global Plasma Solutions) technology called O2PrimeTM to the Center. The NPBI solution works by using a facility’s existing ventilation system to flood the environment with hundreds of millions of ions that attack pathogens, mold, and other airborne and surface contaminants for long-term protection. The patented technology safely cleans indoor air, transforming a building’s infrastructure into a frontline of defense.
In addition to NPBI technology, NCCHR has also implemented FDA approved Siemens’ Thermal Imaging technology, allowing temperature checks via thermal cameras. Results are displayed on a monitor at a safe social distance, enhancing overall protection for staff and visitors.

NCCHR temporarily closed its doors back in March due to safety concerns brought on by the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the Atlanta area. Prior to reopening in September, NCCHR implemented a number of new health and safety protocols.
NCCHR immerses visitors through a range of powerful exhibits. The new technology allows NCCHR to maintain this experience with health and safety measures in place throughout the facility.
While Siemens is the partner for the aforementioned technologies to NCCHR, the company was also a cornerstone partner that supported the facility’s groundbreaking. This year, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Siemens is sponsoring a guided virtual tour of NCCHR for Siemens employees and Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students in an effort to enable more people to access and explore the powerful exhibits inside the NCCHR. In 2013, Siemens contributed $1M to NCCHR to support the organization’s original capital campaign. Since then, in addition to holding events, Siemens amplified several campaigns, including the Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights and their Grand Opening. Siemens and NCCHR have also worked collaboratively on educational seminars for their employees.
