National Coming Out Day at the Center

October 11 | 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join the Center in celebrating National Coming Out Day, an annual observance that recognizes the power of visibility, authenticity, and community. Since 1988, National Coming Out Day has encouraged individuals to share their stories and has served as an important form of advocacy for LGBTQIA+ equality and acceptance. Throughout the afternoon, visitors can explore the stories and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals featured throughout the Center’s exhibitions and learn more about their impact on history and human rights.

The celebration will feature a special My Passion takeover of the Action Lab with The Trevor Project, LGBTQIA+-themed art activities, and live performances from local LGBTQIA+ artists in the Main Lobby. Guests will also have the opportunity to contribute to a testimonial booth, sharing reflections, messages of support, or personal stories as part of the celebration. In collaboration with the Rustin Institute, this community-focused event honors the voices, experiences, and ongoing contributions of LGBTQIA+ communities while fostering connection, understanding, and inclusion.
