Continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a special Storytime at the Center. During this engaging program, Center staff will read Sofia Valdez, Future Prez, the inspiring story of a young girl who learns that when something needs to change, anyone can step up and make a difference. Through Sofia’s journey, children will explore themes of leadership, perseverance, civic engagement, and using their voices to help their communities. Following the reading, families can participate in a hands-on activity designed to encourage creativity and problem-solving while reinforcing the story’s message that every person, no matter their age, has the power to create positive change. Perfect for young learners and their caregivers, this interactive experience helps children see themselves as future leaders and changemakers. Join author Katina Lett for a special Storytime in the Change Agent Adventure gallery as she reads her book Jett Gets a Pet. Through this heartwarming story, young readers will follow Jett's exciting journey and discover lessons about responsibility, kindness, and caring for others. Perfect for children and families, this interactive Storytime offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the author while celebrating the joy of reading and storytelling. Join us this Saturday for an unforgettable experience with interactive storyteller Mama Koku, who will lead high-energy, improvised storytelling sessions at 12 p.m. Known for her magnetic stage presence, Mama Koku transforms storytelling into “story-doing,” inviting children and families to step into the narrative and become part of the performance. Each session is lively, creative, and completely unique, blending imagination, movement, and collaboration in a way that keeps audiences fully engaged. While you’re here, be sure to explore Change Agent Adventure: Children’s Gallery, an interactive space designed for children 12 and under. This hands-on “secret headquarters” invites kids to play, create, and build confidence as they discover what it means to be a changemaker. About the Storyteller Mama Koku is a celebrated teaching artist and storyteller known throughout Metro Atlanta for her dynamic and interactive style. A graduate with honors from North Carolina Central University, she studied theater with concentrations in performance and education. She began her career as a high school theatre teacher, where she honed her work as a storyteller and children’s writer. Families are invited to create a seasonal craft inspired by the values of belonging, justice, empathy, and standing up for others. Through hands-on making and imaginative expression, children will reflect on what it means to build inclusive communities and care for one another. Designed for young changemakers and their caregivers, this drop-in activity encourages creativity, conversation, and learning through play. Guests will leave with a unique craft and a reminder that even small acts of kindness, courage, and compassion can help create positive change in the world around us.
