The Center’s Statement on the Verdict of the Derek Chauvin Trial
Today, Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all charges for the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020. The National Center for Civil and Human Rights shares the relief of many Americans that justice, in this case, was served. This verdict does not bring George Floyd back. Our thoughts are with his family and friends as they continue to mourn their loss, and hope they find solace with today’s historically significant moment of accountability.
While today’s verdict provides hope that accountability is possible, the long list of murders of young men of color proves that reform is needed.
The National Center for Civil and Human Rights continues to demand just and equitable law enforcement practices that respect human rights.
