Sedrick Lakpa

Atlanta, GASedrick Lakpa and Historic Atlanta, in collaboration with United Storytellers, are producing a short narrative film told through the eyes of a community activist who uncovers the hidden, painful history of her neighborhood. Centered on the notorious Chattahoochee Brick Company, the film will explore the legacy of forced prison labor—both past and present—and challenge audiences in Atlanta and beyond to confront its ongoing realities. By connecting the stories of those exploited at Chattahoochee Brick with the experiences of modern-day incarcerated individuals compelled to work without pay, the film draws a powerful line between history and the present. This fellowship will launch the film’s development, which will blend dramatized historical scenes with the real-time journey of Donna Stephens, an environmental and historic preservationist fighting to protect the site from inappropriate redevelopment.
