Athens, GAThe Georgia Conflict Center is partnering with the Athens community to explore the impact of the criminal legal system and promote equitable harm reduction through a series of three community conversations titled “Reflect. Reckon. Rebuild.” Using the Peacemaking Circle process—which fosters respectful dialogue by separating the person from the problem—the Center creates spaces for restorative justice and meaningful engagement. This fellowship supports a deep exploration of the justice system’s disproportionate effects on communities of color, alternatives to traditional prosecution, and the lived experiences of justice-impacted individuals. Led by Mikhayla Smith in collaboration with local organizations, restorative justice practitioners, community leaders, policy stakeholders, and educators, these conversations aim to lay a foundation for community healing and collective action.
