In Remembrance of King: Civil Rights Tapestries Premiere

She led an environmental and community development initiative in Central Uganda and consulted with nonprofits that collaborate with local governments to build sustainable groundwater wells and crop irrigation networks in Sahelian Kenya. An advocate for art as a vehicle for critical thought and social change, she has previous experience at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, the Fowler Museum, and the APEX Museum. Baeza currently serves as Head of Content at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, where she oversees curatorial, exhibition, public programming, and educational efforts.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][mk_padding_divider][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][mk_circle_image heading_title=”Theresa Davis” src=”https://www.civilandhumanrights.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/theresa-davis-headshot.jpg”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1550180005139{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Theresa Davis is an educator, storyteller, poet, author, poetry slam champion and the host of the award-winning open mic Java Speaks.

She has performed on stages across the nation as a poet and keynote speaker. She was a classroom teacher for over 25 years, specializing in cross-curricular education. As a slam poet, Theresa has competed individually and on teams for over a decade and in 2011 won the Women of the World Poetry Slam.

Her one-woman show “Then They’ll Tell You it’s all in Your Head” Made its debut as a part of 7 Stages Home Brew series in fall of 2017. Theresa is the new Literary Coordinator for The Arts Exchange.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][mk_padding_divider][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][mk_circle_image heading_title=”Ryan J.” src=”https://www.civilandhumanrights.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/ryan-davis-headshot.jpg”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1550180054421{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Recognized as a fresh and innovative voice throughout the poetry community, Ryan J. is currently ranked 13th in the world for spoken word, was a member of the 2018 National Poetry Slam Group Piece Finals Champion Team, and Art Amok.

Ryan brings audiences into the folds of a universe of his own construction, where he gives both scathing and insightful perspective on topics such as police brutality, masculinity, mental health, and black culture.

Ryan is a 2018 Cave Canem Fellow, a 2018 Individual World Poetry Slam Finalist, the 2018 Art Amok Slam Champion, and a 2018 Blackberry Peach Poetry Prize Winner.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][mk_padding_divider][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][mk_circle_image heading_title=”Bill Shipsey” src=”https://www.civilandhumanrights.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/bill-shipsey-headshot.jpg”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1548959043685{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Bill Shipsey is the founder of Art for Amnesty – Amnesty International’s global artist engagement programme. He also initiated and has produced Amnesty’s Ambassador of Conscience Award – an accolade that has been bestowed annually to human rights activists.

He has consulted widely with other human rights organizations around the world seeking to partner with artists in the promotion of human rights campaigns.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][mk_padding_divider][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][mk_circle_image heading_title=”Peter Sís” src=”https://www.civilandhumanrights.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/peter-sis-headshot.jpg”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1548959083609{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Peter Sís is an internationally acclaimed author, artist, and filmmaker. Mr. Sis is coming to Atlanta as part of the opening of his latest project with Art for Amnesty, In Remembrance of King: Civil Rights Tapestries. These amazing works chronicle the rise of Dr. King to national prominence as a civil and human rights icon.

In 2003, Peter was named a MacArthur Fellow, an honor bestowed by the John D. and Catherine T.
