Mira Sorvino is an Academy Award-winning actress, documentary filmmaker, and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador on the topic of human rights. Last fall she became a leading silence breaker and a passionate voice in the #MeToo movement started by Tarana Burke. Sorvino is currently in conversations with Attorney Anita Hill and Amy Ziering, director of “The Hunting”, on a documentary that investigates the sexual harassment pandemic.

His teaching and research address institutional violence against women and LGBTQ+ communities. His current work discusses the use of music, theater, and other cultural performances as forms of healing and social commentary among marginalized groups. His appointment at Spelman College is the first professorship dedicated to Black Sexualities and Black Queer Studies at an Historically Black College or University.
