Shana Tabak, an Atlanta lawyer and the Director of Tahirih Justice Center/Atlanta is featured in the film along with her asylum client, Vilma Carrillo.

Though Vilma and her daughter were finally reunited after 246 days apart, they still are represented by Tahirih as they seek asylum in Atlanta’s Immigration Courts, known to be one of the most difficult courts in the U.S. to be granted asylum.

Telemundo, Tahirih Justice Center, the Latin American Association, Freedom University, the Latino Community Fund (LCF Georgia), GALEO and Welcoming America are co-hosting this event.[/vc_column_text][mk_padding_divider][mk_custom_list title=”Schedule of Events”]

Vilma, an indigenous woman from Guatemala, experienced extreme violence at the hands of her husband. After her husband punched out her front four teeth and threatened to kill her, Vilma fled to the U.S. to seek safety. When she and her 11-year old U.S. citizen daughter, Yesivi, arrived at the U.S. border, they were separated.
