International Day of the Girl 2021: Celebrating the Power of our Unique Voices and 50 Years of Alvin Ailey’s Dance Masterpiece “Cry”

Through Destination Dance Ailey Atlanta, The National Center for Civil and Human Rights and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater partner on a moving International Day of the Girl 2021 interactive event to encourage young women to join in the dance and share their unique voices. The virtual program is centered around Alvin Ailey’s iconic masterpiece Cry, an enduring work of American art dedicated to “all Black women everywhere – especially our mothers,” that has been inspiring and sharing a message of empowerment for five decades. Witness a special performance highlight featuring Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Constance Stamatiou, and then join her and Nasha Thomas, Ailey Master Teacher and former Company member, for a sharing conversation, dancing, and an activity assignment for participants to share their unique and powerful voices with the digital community on October 11th for International Day of the Girl.
