Atlanta, GA – Keila Nicole Dumas, a writer and craft mixologist, is working to form community through food made by formerly incarcerated individuals who went into the food and restaurant industry post-release. Through the Breaking Bread Dinner Series, community members will gather for shared meals that weave together personal and historical narratives, offering guests the chance to learn from chefs, historians, and each other in a spirit of connection and dialogue. This fellowship will provide the funds necessary to pay the chefs and moderators and market the event, kickstarting an engaging and irreplicable experience that Keila hopes to make into a traveling experience. For Keila, these sessions’ food serves as both a culinary experience and a platform for truth-telling, cultural preservation, and community empowerment. Her Instagram can be found here.
