Power To Inspire: Virtual Series

The Center is a five-year-old museum and cultural institution in Atlanta, Georgia, the cradle of civil rights. Our dynamic storytelling connects U.S. civil rights to global efforts for the rights of people of color, women, immigrants, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ people, and others today. Our education and engagement programs inspire people to reflect and think critically, and our Innovation Lab galvanizes and prepares leaders to act.

Now, more than ever, our shared humanity and commitment to the Beloved Community is essential. While uncertainty may be at the forefront as we all deal with unprecedented events, hope and inspiration have always kept civil and human rights movements goingand will keep The Center going. The Power to Inspire Virtual Series includes workshops, panels, interviews, storytimes, and more that cover the work of civil and human rights defenders across the globe and touch on stories of humanity impacting all of us today. We hope you join us and engage in the content and resources we will continue to provide and #FeelThePower.

About The Upcoming Event

Join us May 21st, as our President and CEO, Jill Savitt, interviews Mari Copeny (Little Miss Flint), one of the honorees for our sixth annual Power To Inspire Tribute awards.

In honor of her fight to provide clean water for the community of Flint, Michigan, and beyond, The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is proud to recognize Ms. Mari Copeny as a Power to Inspire 2020 Honoree.

Since 2016, Mari has fundraised over $500,000 that has impacted over 25,000 children in Flint and beyond. These funds have gone towards supporting students in getting school supplies, toys, bikes, clean water, and other resources needed to ensure a fulfilled and healthy life.

Each year the National Center for Civil and Human Rights recognizes individuals who promote and deepen democratic ideals by focusing on protecting human rights and dignity. The Power to Inspire Tribute awards are our highest honors given to activists, human rights advocates, and philanthropists around the world. Past honorees have included activists and scholars, including Vice President Joe Biden, Dr. Bernice King, Alina Diaz, Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., The King Center, and George C. Wolfe. Our goal is to continue our mission of providing our audience a series of stories that educate and inspire – and encourage everyone to tap into their power to change the world.
