Join The Center on Wednesday, February 23 at 7pm for a discussion about the history of convict labor at two sites in Atlanta—Bellwood Quarry, now the centerpiece of Westside Reservoir Park, and the Chattahoochee Brick Company.
Convict leasing was a practice government leaders and private businesses used after Emancipation to re-enslave Black men and women by falsely convicting them of crimes and sentencing them to labor.
The conversation will also explain the work that has been done to tell the full history of these places in our city—and create a memorial to those forced into convict labor.
