Summer Institute: Civil Rights Teaching Fellowship

June 22 - June 26
Summer Institute: 2026 Civil Rights Teaching Fellowship

This summer, as part of the Civil Rights Teaching Fellowship, educators will gather for a five-day Summer Institute focused on Student Activism in the Civil Rights Era: SNCC and Beyond.

Young people have always shaped movements for justice. From sit-ins to freedom schools, student leaders transformed the nation. This institute explores that legacy and equips educators to bring those stories into today’s classrooms with depth and honesty.

Teaching Fellows will work with leading historians and education experts to examine primary sources, explore effective pedagogical approaches, and strengthen their civic learning. Fellows will also engage directly with the Center’s expanded exhibits and connect with archival and cultural resources in and beyond Atlanta.

To participate in the Summer Institute, you must be a Civil Rights Teaching Fellow. Please visit the fellowship page to apply. Applications are being accepted until April 15, 2026.
