Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s belief that education should provide both “the power of concentration” and “worthy objectives on which to concentrate\,” this special event offers teachers the opportunity to experience the Center at their own pace while discovering exhibitions\, programs\, and resources designed to support learning beyond the classroom.  \nThroughout the afternoon\, the Education Team will spotlight resources available to teachers through facilitated Field Guide experiences and Traveling Trunk demonstrations\, providing ideas for bringing civil and human rights education into classrooms and learning spaces. DESCRIPTION:Join the Center in celebrating National Coming Out Day\, an annual observance that recognizes the power of visibility\, authenticity\, and community. Since 1988\, National Coming Out Day has encouraged individuals to share their stories and has served as an important form of advocacy for LGBTQIA+ equality and acceptance. Throughout the afternoon\, visitors can explore the stories and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals featured throughout the Center’s exhibitions and learn more about their impact on history and human rights.  \nThe celebration will feature LGBTQIA+ themed art activities\, and live performances from local LGBTQIA+ artists in the Main Lobby. Guests will also have the opportunity to contribute to a testimonial booth\, sharing reflections\, messages of support\, or personal stories as part of the celebration. This community-focused event honors the voices\, experiences\, and ongoing contributions of LGBTQIA+ communities while fostering connection\, understanding\, and inclusion.

Each session is lively\, creative\, and completely unique\, blending imagination\, movement\, and collaboration in a way that keeps audiences fully engaged. \n\nWhile you’re here\, be sure to explore Change Agent Adventure: Children’s Gallery\, an interactive space designed for children 12 and under. This hands-on “secret headquarters” invites kids to play\, create\, and build confidence as they discover what it means to be a changemaker. \nAbout the Storyteller\nMama Koku is a celebrated teaching artist and storyteller known throughout Metro Atlanta for her dynamic and interactive style. A graduate with honors from North Carolina Central University\, she studied theater with concentrations in performance and education. She began her career as a high school theatre teacher\, where she honed her work as a storyteller and children’s writer.
