Kuumba is the oldest black undergrad institution at Harvard dating back to 1970. Immediately following the 1968 assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the 1969 Harvard Strike, the choir emerged as a source of community, spiritual inspiration, political motivation and cultural stimulation among the small but growing number of Black students at Harvard.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
