Since 1988\, National Coming Out Day has encouraged individuals to share their stories and has served as an important form of advocacy for LGBTQIA+ equality and acceptance. Throughout the afternoon\, visitors can explore the stories and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals featured throughout the Center’s exhibitions and learn more about their impact on history and human rights.  \nThe celebration will feature a special My Passion takeover of the Action Lab with The Trevor Project\, LGBTQIA+-themed art activities\, and live performances from local LGBTQIA+ artists in the Main Lobby. Guests will also have the opportunity to contribute to a testimonial booth\, sharing reflections\, messages of support\, or personal stories as part of the celebration. In collaboration with the Rustin Institute\, this community-focused event honors the voices\, experiences\, and ongoing contributions of LGBTQIA+ communities while fostering connection\, understanding\, and inclusion.

DESCRIPTION:Join us this Saturday for an unforgettable experience with interactive storyteller Mama Koku\, who will lead high-energy\, improvised storytelling sessions at 12 p.m. Known for her magnetic stage presence\, Mama Koku transforms storytelling into “story-doing\,” inviting children and families to step into the narrative and become part of the performance. Each session is lively\, creative\, and completely unique\, blending imagination\, movement\, and collaboration in a way that keeps audiences fully engaged. \n\nWhile you’re here\, be sure to explore Change Agent Adventure: Children’s Gallery\, an interactive space designed for children 12 and under. This hands-on “secret headquarters” invites kids to play\, create\, and build confidence as they discover what it means to be a changemaker. \nAbout the Storyteller\nMama Koku is a celebrated teaching artist and storyteller known throughout Metro Atlanta for her dynamic and interactive style. A graduate with honors from North Carolina Central University\, she studied theater with concentrations in performance and education. She began her career as a high school theatre teacher\, where she honed her work as a storyteller and children’s writer. Through engaging activities and conversations\, visitors will gain new perspectives on ethical consumption and discover ways to make more intentional choices.  \nIn partnership with the Atlanta Tool Bank and CHaRM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials)\, guests can participate in special “My Passion” sessions to learn about each organization’s mission and how they help build a more sustainable Atlanta. The event will also feature an ethical footprint-themed art activity\, a live artist painting experience\, and a donation collection that encourages giving back to the community.
