The Spark Lit Club: featuring Blair Imani’s “Making Our Way Home”

Join author Blair Imani at The Center for a book signing and excerpt reading of her new book, Making Our Way Home: The Great Migration and the Black American Dream.
Following the excerpt reading, there will be conversations about voting rights, immigration, discrimination, and activism held at small group tables facilitated by Blair Imani and our Truth and Transformation Institute Manager, Allison Bantimba.
Making Our Way Home: The Great Migration and the Black American Dream discusses the great migration, a period when over 6 million Black people relocated from rural areas to industrial cities in the North and West of the United States, often as refugees from domestic violence.
About The Author
Blair Imani is a critically-acclaimed historian, outspoken advocate and activist, and dynamic public speaker. The author of two historical books: Modern HERstory: Stories of Women and Nonbinary People Rewriting History (2018) and Making Our Way Home: The Great Migration and The Black American Dream (2020), she centers women and girls, global Black communities, and the LGBTQ community. Blair has appeared on Fox News and MSNBC, presented at colleges and universities, spoken at conferences around the world, and delivered powerful talks for organizations and brands including TEDx and GLAAD.
A Massachusetts native, Allison Bantimba has called Atlanta home for the past four years. She recently joined The National Center for Civil and Human Rights as the Campaign Manager for the Truth and Transformation Project. As a graduate student, she organized the Fulton County Remembrance Coalition (FCRC) in partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative. The FCRC works to engage Fulton County in a process of truth and reconciliation by confronting our history of racial terrorism and recognizing its legacy. Allison holds a Bachelor of Science in marketing from Fordham University and a Master of Social Work from Georgia State University.
