Exhibitions & Design Intern


The Center for Civil and Human Rights is a 42,000 square foot facility in the heart of downtown Atlanta located at Pemberton Place, adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park, The World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium. The Center is a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is computer savvy, deadline and detail oriented, highly flexible and a self-starter. The position reports to the Director of Exhibition & Design and will be responsible for assisting the Exhibition & Design department with specific projects and goals while gaining valuable insights into the internal working of a non-profit environment.

  • As a part of a college work study/course, the intern will work at the Center for a defined period while accomplishing a specific set of tasks
  • Organize goals of intern assignment and create a plan to complete
  • Carry out duties in a professional manner
  • Assist in gathering specific assigned information for NCCHR
  • Assist the Director in update on exhibitions spaces
  • Assist the Director in projects on deadlines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Intern will gain and/or improve upon his or her:

  • General communication skills
  • Knowledge of Exhibitions & Design
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Understanding trends for exhibits and design
  • Understanding of inner workings of nonprofit organization
  • General customer service skills
  • Proficiency with Industry-standard Adobe design programs, Microsoft Office and Word
  • Marketing, Communication, Graphic Design, Art, History or Education majors
  • This is an unpaid internship
  • Familiarity with planning and project management skill
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills (Strong interpersonal skills)
  • Demonstrable personal interest in civil and human rights
  • Professional office, email and phone etiquette
  • Database experience helpful, but not required
  • Must be friendly, outgoing and have a passion for service
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Preference will be given to college juniors and seniors and those seeking academic credit
  • Local students preferred

The hours and time commitment are flexible (between the hours of 9 am- 5 pm) but to be set between the supervisor and the internship candidate prior to the start of the internship. No more than 20 per week during the school semester/30 hours per week during the summer.
