Marketing Associate

National Center for Civil and Human Rights (The Center) is an engaging cultural institution that connects the American Civil Rights Movement to today’s ongoing struggle for human rights, whether at a local or global level. Our purpose is to create a safe space for visitors and attendees to explore the fundamental rights of all human beings so that they come away inspired and empowered to join the ongoing dialogue about human rights in their communities, workplace, and lives. The Center is seeking a Marketing Associate to join our busy marketing team and support our content development, digital media, and collateral design work.



The Marketing Associate will serve as the primary support to the marketing team. The Market Associate will generate social content, write copy and assist with digital information and communications for the organization. The Marketing Associate will be expected to work collaboratively with the Digital Media Content and Communications Manager to develop content that aligns with the mission and vision for The Center. This team member must possess creativity, strong organization skills, and be knowledgeable of industry specific technologies such as social media platforms and publishing software.  

 Reports to: Digital Media Content and Communications Manager and Director of Marketing & Communications 

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Assist with the creation, development, planning, and posting of timely, relevant content to our various social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. 
  • Monitor various media platforms for content about or relevant to The Center 
  • Assist with developing communications outreach materials, such as press releases, email pitches, media alerts, etc. 
  • Review content for The Center’s website to prepare for posting including photos, bios, event registrations, job postings, etc. 
  • Assist with monitoring and responding to inquiries from social media 
  • Assist with copywriting needs including but not limited to blog posts, social media posts,etc.  
  • Use various tactics to assist with improving The Center’s SEO  
  • Assist with marketing analytics to determine ROI on initiatives 
  • Other duties as assigned


Core Competencies 

  • Proficiency with the various technology tools utilized in the role such as social media platforms, MS Office Suite, graphic design and database tools 
  • Knowledge of Hootsuite, Word Press, and/or AdobePro strongly preferred 
  • A strong command of English language grammar and spelling, and verbal communications 
  • Operates within anti-racist frameworks when approaching tasks, community, and colleagues 
  • Capable of managing multiple simultaneous priorities 
  • Moderate to advanced understanding of SEO strategies and tactics 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with developing, planning and executing social content and strategy.  

Preferred Skills 

  • Design abilities, able to work in Adobe suite.  

Physical Requirements 

  • Capable of working on a computer for extended periods of time 
  • Extended periods of sitting and/or standing 
  • Cognitive ability to process information, analyze and make decisions 
  • Ability to lift, carry, and or move up to 25 pounds 
  • Bending, reaching, kneeling
