  • Major League Baseball and the Civil Rights Movement Legacy
Two of my favorite things are my work for the Center and baseball.  I was honored to participate in a panel discussion at Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta yesterday.  The discussion  explored the link between baseball teams pursuing top talent like Jackie Robinson in the days before the American Civil Rights Movement, and how those developments in the sports world helped our country realize a more just social and political structure outside the ball park.  It was an exciting opportunity for those of us on the panel and the students enjoyed it too.  Sharing these stories and fostering these links makes the movement real for the next generation, and I was privileged to a see a little piece of that in the room.   The MLB Civil Rights Game will be in Atlanta on May 15.  You can read more about the educational events the League is doing, and the other activities in the run up to the game here.
